It is one of the rare experiences in the world worth waking up at midnight when the sky is still pitch black. Watching the sunrise (redness) while silently gliding like a bird among millions of years old volcanic fairy chimneys and deep valleys as hundreds of balloons inflated with giant fire burners take off simultaneously is a mystical visual feast that cannot be described in words.

Flights are highly dependent on weather conditions (wind), so plan to stay in the area for at least 2-3 days.

After climbing approximately 2,000 meters on winding mountain roads covered with pine forests by car, you reach the Babadağ runway. The first 3 seconds when you run off the slope with a master pilot (tandem flight) and throw yourself into the void, your heart feels like it will jump out of your chest. But once the parachute opens, it gives way to an incredible peace.

Below you lie the world-famous turquoise waters of Ölüdeniz, Belcekız beach, and in clear weather, the view of Rhodes Island. The flight lasts about 30-40 minutes.

Kaş, which has the clearest, cleanest, and highest visibility waters of the Mediterranean, is undoubtedly the diving capital of Turkey. However, if you are looking for a more extreme experience, your address for "Kitesurf", done with giant kites, should be the shores of Akyaka (Gökova Gulf) in Muğla.

Choose according to your adrenaline and experience level: Köprülü Canyon in Antalya Manavgat offers a great, safe, and fun rafting course for families and amateur groups with its icy water and magnificent forest view. However, if you say "I want to feel real danger and power", you should head to the Black Sea.

Artvin's Çoruh River is one of the fastest and most fiercely flowing rivers in the world and is suitable only for professional/advanced rafters, offering a world-class extreme course.

  📍 From Fethiye to Antalya

  This ancient path, stretching approximately 500 kilometers from Fethiye to Antalya, has been selected as one of the top 10 long-distance hiking (Trekking) routes in the world by various international magazines. You can walk in the forest for days with your tent on your back and swim in hidden coves accessible only on foot. Especially the Gelidonya Lighthouse stage is legendary. Additionally, the Antalya Geyikbayırı region is one of Europe's most important "Rock Climbing" centers with its steep cliffs.

When you climb to the highlands of Pokut, Gito, Huser, or Macahel with a powerful 4x4 or SUV beneath you, you won't find the feeling of victory from watching a sunset over a "Sea of Clouds" anywhere else.

The striking thing here is the seasonal clash. The Lycian Way and the Black Sea highlands run on opposite calendars — one in spring and autumn, the other only in midsummer. If you were planning to do all seven on a single trip, that clash is your biggest obstacle.

Routes: How to Combine Them 🧭

Western Mediterranean tour (7-10 days)

Start with paragliding in Fethiye, walk one or two coastal stages of the Lycian Way, drop down to Kaş for diving, and finish with rafting at Köprülü Canyon. All four sit in the same geography, with around 350 km of driving in total. May or October is ideal for this route.

Aegean wind tour (4-5 days)

Roughly 200 km separates Akyaka and Alaçatı. Combining them lets you experience two different wind characters on one trip: Akyaka is steadier and better for learning, Alaçatı stronger and more social.

Black Sea highland tour (5-7 days)

From Rize through Pokut, Gito and Huser to Artvin, then rafting on the Çoruh. Off-road and water sport in a single trip. Do not stray outside July and August, though — the highland roads open late and close by autumn.

Cappadocia and central Anatolia (3-4 days)

A balloon flight is a single-morning experience. Fill the remaining days with valley walks and underground cities. Because flights are frequently cancelled for weather, allow at least three nights in the region; arrive for one night only and you risk missing the flight entirely.

Choosing a Vehicle: What Each Adventure Demands 🚙

What these seven have in common is that none of them sits where public transport comfortably reaches. They do not, however, all require the same vehicle.

• Ballooning, paragliding, rafting: a standard car is more than enough. These sites are reached by paved road and operators usually offer hotel pick-up.
• Diving and surfing: equipment volume is the deciding factor. Boards, tanks and wetsuits take real space, so an estate or SUV makes sense. Flag any roof rack requirement when booking.
• The Lycian Way: logistics matter, since you leave the car at one point and continue from another. Most walkers base the car in Kaş or Fethiye and reach the stages by minibus.
• Black Sea highlands: here you genuinely need high ground clearance and preferably four-wheel drive. The Pokut and Gito roads are not impassable in a standard car, but after rain the mud carries real risk. This single activity justifies moving up a vehicle class.

One caution: rules on taking rental cars onto highland tracks vary between contracts. Ask about restrictions on unsurfaced and gravel roads before you collect the vehicle.

Do these activities require experience?

Ballooning, tandem paragliding and family-route rafting need none — all are done with an instructor. Kite surfing and diving require introductory training. The Lycian Way demands fitness.

Can I do them all on one trip?

Realistically no. The geographic spread runs from Cappadocia to Artvin, and the seasons do not overlap. The efficient approach is to group by region and plan two or three separate trips.

What is the best season?

May and September-October form the common window for most of them. July and August favour only the Black Sea highlands and water sports; the Lycian Way is far too hot in those months.

What happens if the balloon flight is cancelled?

Flights are frequently cancelled for wind and visibility. Operators usually offer a transfer to the next day or a refund, but with only one night in the region you have no room to recover. Plan at least three nights.

Can a standard car reach the highlands?

In dry weather some highlands are reachable, but it is risky. On muddy, rocky ground after rain, high clearance makes a marked difference. Upgrading the vehicle class is the right investment for this route.

Should I bring my own equipment?

Diving and surfing centres rent gear, so it is not required. If you do bring your own, factor boot capacity and roof rack availability into your vehicle choice.
